MUSIC (BAND)
DODO MUNOKO is one of Africa's most gifted and beloved vocalists. He and his band play “Congo Rhumba,” as well as its raucous dance floor offshoot, "Soukous,” from the French secouer meaning "to shake,” which is precisely what goes down in discos across Africa and Europe when Dodo’s music plays.
His adoring vocals, sung in Lingala and French, soar above the syncopated rhythms of his 7-piece band, La Rhumba, whose highly-charged percussion is offset by the perpetual melodies of Huit Kilo’s electric guitar. LA Weekly’s CC Smith calls Dodo’s sound “infectiously enthusiastic with a powerful joie de vivre."
